Work on Canvas

I began doing work on canvas in the late summer of 2004. Circumstances were that I was unable to evict the illegal tenants from my summer home on Cape Cod so I spent that summer in a dilapidated warehouse room on Martha’s Vineyard. Although the nearly bare room had no running water and windows that didn’t close I lived and worked in that third floor room behind some storefronts in Vineyard Haven. I couldn’t do my usual work there because of the conditions, so went and got some canvas and several tubes of acrylic paint and that was the beginning of a concentration of works on canvas that continued through all of 2005. I continue to do new etchings but I’ve not done a new watercolor in about 4 years.

During that crazy summer I was re-inspired to write poetry again after many years of not writing. I am happy with some of the poems that came from that time.

Looking for Printing Help

I’m looking for a printing assistant who is familiar with stone lithography. My Master Printer has gone on to other things and because of my ruined rotator cuffs I have not been able to print my lithographs. I’d love to get back to this type of work.

My empty stone awaits!

Travel

I have done much travel in the past year. This always brings new ideas and new work. I’ve gone to the Caribbean again and have begun work on two relatively large canvasses from the beautiful turquoise sea in that part of the world. Ski trips have brought a renewed interest in doing some new snow scenes. I’ve also done some photography around the southwest area of North Carolina during a retreat there on a mountaintop where I participated in white water rafting, canoeing and hiking the Appalation Trail. I will be working from some of those photos in 2006. A trip to the Eastern Shore in the fall brought a lot of new inspiration for some large paintings. The light was outstanding in the wildlife reserve in October. I’ve begun some acrylic work from that trip.

Summer Studio Changes

I am attempting to sell my summer place in Woods Hole. I don’t want to deal with winter tenants any more. I own a mooring there in Great Harbor and have a sailboat. So this summer I will spend less time on the Cape but will live on my boat and rent studio space when I go there. Nothing like a “waterfront property” and you can’t beat the view!

The flood

I have some remaining prints of etchings still left after Hurricane Isabel’s devastation in 2003. I lost about 52 etching plates in that flood in the Torpedo Factory. But I have gone on to do many new etchings.
